February 04, 2022The aluminum oxide (AO) membrane filters are extremely brittle and will fracture if subjected to bending. Great care must be used when handling and placing the filters. They cannot be handled using fingers. They must be handled with smooth membrane tweezers or with vacuum tweezers, such as SPI 00016-AB or similar. When choosing vacuum tweezers, make sure to select one that apply continuous vacuum with an electrically powered motor. Continuous vacuum is required since the AO membrane is permeable and will have some small airflow. Don't bother trying the cheap vacuum tweezers that use squeeze bulbs to create vacuum; they won't work.

January 17, 2022Water scarcity is a global concern that’s become more complicated due to demographic growth and climate change, prompting the search for alternative resources. In many parts of the world, two of the most practical and achievable methods to securing water are desalination and wastewater reuse. For decades, membrane-based technologies have been widely used for water treatment due to accessibility, simple operation, adaptability to various feed compositions and operation pressures, and consideration for the environment, unlike chemical or thermal approaches. However, only in recent decades have options for reducing, recycling, or reusing elements been investigated (Prince, et al., 2011).

December 13, 2021As the world's energy economy shifts to lithium-ion batteries for transportation, energy storage systems, and electric mobility, battery-grade lithium solids are predicted to become increasingly scarce. The cost of extracting battery-grade lithium has historically proved expensive, as the demand for the material continues to rise. But a new core technology, developed by Richmond, BC-based Saltworks, renowned for developing technologies that treat the toughest water, uses wastewater for making high-quality battery-grade lithium carbonate or lithium hydroxide solids.
