Top 3 Picks from TIME's Best Inventions of 2022

Every year the editors over at Time Magazine select 100 new innovative products or ideas that they feel have the most impact. This year, they took that a step further, highlighting 200 Best Inventions for the year. Here are our top favorites from this year's list.

Plus Body Wash Sheets

Personal care products generate a ton of plastic. Body washes, shampoos and other beauty products are generally packaged in plastic bottles which are sent to a landfill once the contents have been used up. Due to its tough, durable nature, plastic was a popular choice of packaging for years, but we are slowly beginning to realize the error in our ways. These same characteristics mean that it lasts for a long time in the environment before breaking down into smaller and smaller bits of plastic, which contaminate the environment and pose a risk to all species that are exposed to them. Plus Body Wash Sheets offer a sustainable bottle-free alternative to conventional body wash products. Just add water and the compact dehydrated sheets will transform into a refreshing lather. The bottle-free and waterless body wash sheets are sold in water soluble sachets that dissolve in water or in a tear-off roll consisting of 30 sheets packaged inside a refillable dispenser.

Graphene Kitchen Styler

Graphene is an ultra-thin yet super-strong nano-material with excellent heat conducting properties. Graphene Square, a company based in South Korea, has now designed the innovative,  energy-efficient Graphene Kitchen Styler,  which can heat up to 570 degrees Fahrenheit in just two minutes. The graphene-based kitchen appliance, which comes with a rechargeable battery pack for cooking outdoors, can be used as a two-burner stove when the top is open, or as an oven or grill when the top is folded closed. It can also be used as a warming plate to keep food warm. The transparent cooking surfaces allow users to readily keep an eye on their food during the cooking process to ensure food is cooked to perfection. The Graphene Kitchen Styler is expected to be released onto the market in 2023.

OneWater

Water is the one resource that we simply cannot do without. It is essential to our survival. Yet, due to a combination of factors such as climate change and a rising human population, water security is increasingly becoming a global challenge. Epic Cleantec plan to change that with their OneWater decentralized wastewater treatment system. The OneWater system treats wastewater to a quality suitable for reuse for applications such as irrigation, toilet flushing and laundry. It also recycles the energy generated by wastewater and uses this to help heat up hot water in buildings, while the nutrient-rich organic sludge can be applied as an organic soil enhancer to gardens and landscaping. The OneWater system, which is designed for large-scale new developments, can treat and recycle up to 95% of the wastewater generated, significantly reducing the demand for water and the volume of wastewater discharged into freshwater systems, together with the associated costs and impacts.

These three inventions are the stand-outs for us as they provide sustainable solutions that help address pressing challenges such as plastic pollution, high energy consumption and water scarcity. Read about the other inventions here
