FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Here you'll find answers to our most asked questions. Still can't find quite what you're looking for, or have something we should know? Send us an email, we're happy to help!

  • Q: What’s the main application of magnetic filter funnels?

A: Magnetic filter funnels are mainly used for liquid filtration and purification in laboratories and various industries. They are also used for particle analysis in the environmental industry and for detecting microbiological contamination in water samples, such as measuring suspended solids in wastewater or the total bacterial count in drinking water.

  • Q: Are magnetic filter funnels suitable for organic solvent filtration?

A: Filtration of solvents or acids is not recommended, as such use can significantly reduce the service life of magnetic filter funnels. You can also refer to Rocker Chemical Compatibility sheet.

  • Q: Can magnetic filter funnels be sterilized using UV, X-ray, Beta, or Gamma radiation?

A: Magnetic filter funnels are resistant to Beta, Gamma, and X-ray sterilization. However, UV sterilization is not recommended.

  • Q: Can magnetic filter funnels be autoclaved? How many times can they be autoclaved?

A: Magnetic filter funnels can be steam sterilized at 121–123 °C (250–253 °F), 1.0 bar (100 kPa, 15 psi) for 15–20 minutes. They can withstand at least 150 autoclave cycles when not exposed to chemical solvents or detergents.

  • Q: How should magnetic filter funnels be sterilized?

A: 1. Separate the lid kit, cup, and base from the filter holder before autoclaving.

    2.Autoclave at 121–123 °C (250–253 °F) and 1.0 bar (100 kPa, 15 psi) for 15–20 minutes.

    3. Do not autoclave with aluminum foil.

  • Q: Why do magnetic filter funnels crack after autoclaving, even when used only with pure wate?

A: Although the PES material used in the magnetic filter funnels is autoclavable at 121 °C for 20 minutes, some users rinse or soak the funnels in cleaning detergents after filtration. These detergents can damage the PES structure, leading to cracks under high-temperature and high-pressure steam conditions.

  • Q: How should magnetic filter funnels be cleaned?

A: 1. Fully disassemble the magnetic filter funnel.

    2. Soak all parts in clean water. Avoid abrasive cleansers. If needed, use a soft-bristle brush or sponge to remove stubborn residues.

    3. Rinse all parts thoroughly. The final rinse should be with pure water.

    4. Store all parts in a clean, dry environment..

  • Q: Is there a warranty on magnetic filter funnels?

A:In practice, it is difficult to determine the exact nature of the filtration samples or detergents used by each customer. Therefore, magnetic filter funnels are generally not covered by warranty, except in specific cases at our discretion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Solvent or acid filtration is not recommended, as such use could greatly reduce the lifetime of these funnels.

PES MF funnels can withstand multiple autoclave cycles at 121 - 123 °C (250 -253 °F) at 1.0 bar (100 kPa, 15 psi) for 15 - 20 min. Please remove the lid kits and stoppers before autoclaving. Do NOT autoclave these funnels with aluminum foil.

Repeated used of detergents may cause polyphenyl sulfone to crack, especially those containing polyoxyethylated alkyl phenols and alcohols, anti-corrosion, or anti-scaling boiler additives.
