Adult patients suspected of HIV infection can be quickly diagnosed with rapid test kits, enabling them to immediately start antiretroviral treatment. However, infants, the most vulnerable demographic, do not have this same privilege. Rapid test kits are unreliable for infant diagnosis until they reach 18-months of age. [1] In place of rapid test kits, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends early infant diagnosis (EID) through polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methods to detect the virus through its genetic material.
The Aquaporin Inside® HFFO2 is a cross flow membrane module containing Aquaporin Inside™ hollow fiber membranes. With Aquaporin proteins coated on the interior surface (lumen side) of the fibers, the feed solution is circulated in the lumen and the draw solution is circulated in the shell. To learn more about Aquaporin Inside HFFO2 please see our most recent blog post.
Since 2016 we have supplied over 1000 Sterlitech Kato-Katz Kit to clinicians and researchers—enough materials to perform over 500,000 tests. These kits are used to efficiently diagnose intestinal schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminthiasis (STH) in the field. Recently, Dr. Johnny Vlaminck, a postdoc at the Parasitology Lab of Ghent University, used our kit during his fieldwork in Lao PDR and noticed a point of clarification in the product instructions.
A common question users of disk, syringe, and capsule filters ask is: How long will my filter last? Or, put another way: How much fluid can I expect to pass through my filter before it clogs? The answer to this question will help users select appropriately sized filters.
From their use in portable electronics and medical devices to electric vehicles, lithium (Li)-ion batteries have revolutionized our daily lives. Appropriately, the 2019 Nobel Prize for Chemistry has been awarded to M. Stanley Whittingham, John Goodenough, and Akira Yoshino for their major contributions in the development of the Li-ion battery.
The CK Nanofiltration Flat Sheet membranes (made from cellulose acetate) will be unavailable until further notice. If you are looking for a substitute membrane for your application, Sterlitech recommends the SBNF series of flat sheet nanofiltration membranes. SBNF series are chlorine-resistant(a) nanofiltration membranes suited for the treatment of surface waters and removal of organics and color. SBNF membranes are available in different dimensions, including sizes for CF016, CF042, and Sepa CF bench-scale test cells.
Sterlitech Syringe Filters play important roles in the purification processes inside laboratories and out in remote operations—applying to sample preparation for HPLC, pharmaceutical dissolution testing, and environmental monitoring, to name a few.
A team of scientists at the University of California, Berkeley developed a wearable sensor to monitor an individual’s health based upon their sweat. The sensor is constructed as a patch with a spiral-patterned microfluidic component where sweat samples can flow and be analyzed.[1] It has shown potential for monitoring sodium and fluid loss, and in some cases potassium.[1] The team would like to develop the technology into a bloodless glucose monitor.
