Sterlitech is proud to announce that it is adding Synder Filtration’s polymeric membranes to its stable of products. These additional products increase the selection of available molecular weight cut-offs and include membrane filters with surface charges. “We have seen a steady increase in customer demand for our membrane process testing equipment, and correspondingly, a wider demand for a greater variety of flat sheet membranes,” explains Sterlitech President Mark Spatz. “The addition of Synder Filtration products illustrates our desire to support the wide-ranging needs of our customers and facilitate the development of new applications.” Synder’s flat sheet membranes characteristically yield stable flux, consistent rejection, and high mechanical strength and integrity. In addition to an optimal balance of flux and rejection, their ultrafiltration PES membranes offer one of the widest ranges of molecular weight cut-offs available, excellent resistance to pH, temperature, and fouling.

Sterlitech Corporation is now offering fully customizable membrane and process development systems which provide users with complete experimental control over the system’s flow parameters to simulate the dynamics of larger membrane systems. Sterlitech first began building custom-made crossflow systems in 2011 and has since improved and expanded their capabilities to cover a wide range of applications in reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, ultrafiltration and microfiltration. These units can be individually tailored to meet the specific testing needs for off-the-shelf or custom membrane designs. Customizable factors include: membrane size, the number of cells in operation (up to 6), and whether the cells are run in sequence or in parallel. Some of the new features built into the new testing units include a NEMA-standard waterproof touchscreen HMI panel and new back pressure regulators for better testing performance. This previously unattainable degree of flexibility is responsible for

Nobuto Blood Filter Strips are the latest addition to Sterlitech’s growing line of microbiology and life science products. Made from high-purity cellulose fibers, which gives them a structure ideal for uniform sampling, each strip holds approximately 0.1 mL of blood or 0.04 mL of serum. Once the blood strip has dried, researchers can analyze, store, or mail the samples without refrigeration. “Nobuto blood filter strips are a valuable resource for tracking diseases within wild animal populations,” states Mark Spatz, president of Sterlitech. “Studies have indicated that these collection devices are easy to use and enable delayed analysis when samples are collected in the field. In past studies, they have been used to track Avian Influenza and West Nile Virus in wild birds.” Sterlitech offers Nobuto blood filter strips in packs of 100 and plastic drying racks which can hold 40 of the strips at one time. In addition to screening for avian Influenza and West Nile virus, they are

Starting today, Sterlitech’s selection of Hollow Fiber Filter Cartridges will no longer be available on our website. These filter cartridges from Watersep were ideal for cell culture clarification, cell harvesting, and for concentrating antibodies and enzymes. Unfortunately, we currently do not carry an equivalent product that can serve as a direct replacement for these hollow fiber filter cartridges. However, if you need them, you can contact us, and we can put in a special order for you. Think of them as part of our “Secret Menu.” Next month, you will be able to order a complete bench scale system “animal style.” To learn more about hollow fiber membrane filter cartridges, you can visit Watersep’s website here.

As of March 4, 2013 Sterlitech is offering a new set of shim sizes in our Sepa CF Shim Assortment Pack (SKU 1231104). This new set of shims will become Sterlitech’s new standard for use with the Sepa CF Cell. The older set of shims will no longer be offered. The new assortment pack contains the following shims:
- 1 shim with a thickness of 2 mil (0.051 mm)
- 1 shim with a thickness of 3 mil (0.076 mm)
- 1 shim with a thickness of 4 mil (0.102 mm)
- 1 shim with a thickness of 5 mil (0.127 mm)
- 3 shims with a thickness of 10 mil (0.254 mm)
- 3 shims with a thickness of 15 mil (0.381 mm)
These shims can be stacked one on top of the other to make a shim that is the optimal thickness for your application. The selected sizes in the pack make sure that finding the optimal thickness is easy. You can visit the Sepa CF Cell page to learn more about this shim set and other parts of the Sepa CF Cell. For reference the older Shim Assortment Pack contained:
- 4 shims with a thickness of 2 mil (0.051 mm)

Sterlitech is now carrying Dow FilmTec flat sheet membranes for reverse osmosis and nanofiltration separations. These high-performance membranes are available in Sepa CF, CF042, or HP4750 sizes, or as 12 x 12 inch sheets. The FilmTec line of spiral wound membranes was created by the experts at Dow Water & Process Solutions for industrial, municipal and commercial water applications. While they have often been used for large industrial processes like power generation and semiconductor plants, with our precut sizes it is easier than ever to implement these membranes for laboratory scale testing with a membrane test cell. For information on how to best utilize each membrane type, consult our application tab for recommended uses on each designation.

Until quite recently, dry baths (sometimes referred to as “incubators” or “block heaters”) were very simple heating machines that would allow users to have marginal control over temperature of samples. With the advent of the digital age and the integration of the microchip into laboratory equipment, this temperature control has become much more accurate and the units have become easier to use. Currently there are a few different models of dry baths out on the market and here is a general summary of some of them: Analog Dry Baths: analog dry baths are the original dry baths available to laboratory personnel. These feature knobs with periodic markings from 0 to 9. The user would turn the knob to increase temperature. It is vital that a thermometer is used with this kind of dry bath as it is difficult to know, except

You can now create and order a customized sample pack for any of our membrane disc filter materials through the Sterlitech website! We’ve always been happy to provide these sample packs for our customers to experiment with and now it’s easier than ever to acquire the filters you want. Get started by visiting our Membrane Filter Sample Packs page and choosing the material you wish to sample. From the material page build your sample pack by selecting the pore size/diameter combinations you want to try from the drop down menus. Each sample pack contains five pore size/diameter combinations of two filters each, for a total of ten filters per sample pack. If you want to sample five different pore sizes and diameters, you can. If you want all ten filters to be identical, you can do that too. The custom sample packs operate on a flat pricing structure, so there’s no added cost for mixing different options. If you still can’t find the sample option you need, contact one of our reps and we’ll help
