Operated as a tangential flow (crossflow) system, membrane elements are perfect for scaling up from flat sheets or as a more complete test before pilot scale. They are also ideal for small-scale production, feasibility studies, and product or process development. Membrane elements may be operated under a wide combination of feed flow rates, permeate flux, and operating pressure or temperature in order to mimic operating conditions representative of full-size membrane filtration systems.
