Silver membranes with Laser-induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) Help Detect Biological Hazardous Materials

Sterlitech Silver membranes have proven beneficial in applications using broadband Laser-induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) to examine complex biological samples. By using silver membranes to analyze biomaterials with the use of LIBS technology, scientists are able to separate the few prominent silver atomic emission lines of the silver membranes from the atomic emission lines of the bacteria spores.

We are pleased to provide you with a link to a recent study in which spores of the genus Bacillus were deposited on silver membrane filters for LIBS analysis: Broadband LIBS Analysis of Related Bacillus Spores, conducted by Yvette Mattley of Ocean Optics, Inc.

In a similar study, "Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy of Bacterial Spores, Molds, Pollens, and Protein: Initial Studies of Discrimination Potential ," biosamples were prepared and deposited onto silver membranes using LIBS to analyze them. Each LIBS spectrum revealed distinct spectral lines of the spores, molds and pollens, allowing for the discrimination of the different biomaterials.

Sterlitech Offers a Compact, Lightweight Vacuum Pump

To assist you with your filtration needs, Sterlitech is pleased to announce it has added a light weight, quiet vacuum pump to its product line. The Rocker 400 oil-free vacuum pump/compressor is a piston- powered pump and its oil-free design makes it clean and maintenance fee. It is easy to use for your flask filtration and vacuum manifold applications. The pump is directly motor driven without transmission and has quality rubber feet, which keeps noise level at only 50 dB. Click here for more information and pricing on the Rocker 400.
