We recently updated our Standard method and Application guide to include more filter recommendations for environmental analysis applications. These additions include topics such as the EPA method for extracting oil and grease from water and the Field Leach Test method from the United States Geological Survey. New methods are in addition to our existing collection of procedures which includes topics like air sampling, bacteria counting, and silt density index.

The product recommendations that we provide with the methods are based on the requirements set forth by the procedure, as well as input from customers and suppliers.

We made a small design change to our product category pages today – A thumbnail of each SKU is now displayed at the category level (You can see an example of the upgraded look here). For many of our bench scale and laboratory equipment categories this will make it much easier and quicker to compare all of the different models and parts. While adding the SKU images may not mean as much for the membrane disc filter, syringe filter, and capsule filter categories since there isn’t a dramatic difference between a 0.1 and 0.2 micron Nylon membrane, it does still make for a cleaner looking display overall.

You can now create and order a customized sample pack for any of our membrane disc filter materials through the Sterlitech website! We’ve always been happy to provide these sample packs for our customers to experiment with and now it’s easier than ever to acquire the filters you want.

Get started by visiting our Membrane Filter Sample Packs page and choosing the material you wish to sample. From the material page build your sample pack by selecting the pore size/diameter combinations you want to try from the drop down menus. Each sample pack contains five pore size/diameter combinations of two filters each, for a total of ten filters per sample pack.

If you want to sample five different pore sizes and diameters, you can. If you want all ten filters to be identical, you can do that too. The custom sample packs operate on a flat pricing structure, so there’s no added cost for mixing different options.

We just updated our shipping options so now you can use your own shipping account for online orders! This was another feature that quite a few of our customers have asked about and we’re glad we could get it up and running this week. Just select “Use My Own Shipping Account” when checking out to choose your carrier (UPS, FedEx, DHL) and your method. Quick, simple, and there’s no handling fee so it’s a completely free option if you wish to use it!

Please note however that entering incorrect account information can result in a delay with your shipment and maybe a scolding from me…Happy ordering!

Some of our more astute visitors may have noticed that our wishlist feature went away this week. What gives? Well, we decided to revamp our shopping cart in an effort to make it easier for people to share carts. The best part is that now you don’t have to be logged in to an account anymore in order to create a shopping cart and email it off to someone else. Just add the item(s) you want to your cart and click on the “Send Cart” button under My Cart and voila! The recipient gets an email a moment later with all the product information and the option to quickly complete the order.

This should especially help out the universities and large companies that have to bounce ordering information around between purchasing and other departments. Now someone in the lab can select the supplies they want and the purchasing person can easily place the order with just a few clicks!

We updated our site search feature this week to include product descriptions in the search results! Now you can quickly find and compare item specifications right from the search results. Just another effort to make your lives a little bit easier…
